The Black Hole

The institution is Future Shorts and it runs for two minutes forty-nine seconds. It has only one character which I think works really well in a short film, especially as it has a very entertaining narrative, I think too many characters could over complicate it. This would have a wide and varied audience, although children wouldn’t be able to understand the plotline, or it might scare them, so teenagers and above. Its genre would probably be mystery, it uses a traditional mystery title image of the title in old fashioned font on a black background, then a circle appears through the black of the films setting, the circle enlarges until it fills the entire frame. It suggests a magnifying glass which is very Sherlock homes esque.
The moral of the film I think is to not be greedy, because the character keeps selfishly taking things for his own benefit and then gets his come uppance in the end. It has a generous use of close ups and mid shots, which are used to show the characters thoughts and feelings. Naturalistic sounds are used to add realism, this contrasts well with the very unrealistic “black hole” that he finds.
